Chaotic First Week as a Family of Six

Standard

Now that the baby is 3 1/2 weeks old…

By far the biggest challenge we faced, other than hoping that Papa would make it to the hospital in time for the delivery (which he did), and hoping that I wouldn’t be in labor and rushing to the hospital at 5 pm when taxis are impossible to get (which I wasn’t), was figuring out the return trip home by train.

The main complication is the boarding process.  About 14000 people are squeezed into a large hall, with narrow gates that open some arbitrary time (we have experienced anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes) prior to the very punctual departure time.  The masses flood down a corridor to the long flight of stairs heading down to the platform…

And add to that the fact of our two family members from the US who were joining us for the ride north, with all kinds of luggage stuffed with treats.  We wanted to make sure it all made it on board!

It fortunately all went surprisingly smoothly, and we arrived home without mishaps.

So now we are back to the life of chronically disrupted sleep, and increasing amounts of caffeine for the Mama.
