Kindergarten Party

Standard

Ya Hui, our oldest, had a New Year’s Party that we attended over the holidays.

Of course, the holidays seem to be a continuous thing from Thanksgiving until February, when the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival occur.

We were not quite clear on some of the details, such as the meaning of anything that was spoken or sung, but it was festive and a good chance to practice rudimentary conversation with other parents.

We also missed the message about bringing a lunch/meal for your family, until we saw everybody bringing out bags and Chinese tupperware filled with mystery foods and disposable chopstix.

But the wonderful Chinese generosity won, and plates heaping with food were brought over to us to enjoy.

We have encountered such generosity in every situation that involves food since we’ve arrived.

I am convinced that the Chinese people as a whole have the gift of hospitality!
